Springbok Clinical Video

Occupational therapist Dave Calver walks through the clinical advantages of the Springbok and Wildebeest wheelchairs, plus a hands-on guide to key adjustments.

Both chairs share a rigid aluminium frame built for efficient power transfer, fat rear tyres that handle rooted, muddy, rocky and stair-heavy ground, and front castors running on oversized bearings for years of smooth rolling. The frame is designed to last around ten years. Because so much of the chair adjusts, fewer configurations serve a far wider population, meaning less stock to manage and more users fitted properly.


The second half is a practical walkthrough. Dave covers folding the backrest and pulling the quick-release rear wheels for transport, then setting footrest height, depth and angle, with an optional riser taking the total range to 140 to 380 mm. He moves on to backrest height and angle, and to the velcro tension-adjustable backrest, which allows better control of the pelvis and accommodates the natural curves of the spine. He also demonstrates repositioning the rear axle to maximise pushing power and stability, and adjusting seat height for optimal arm and shoulder position, with a reminder to keep the caster barrels vertical.


Hip, trunk and head supports, a four-point pelvic strap, anti-tippers and tubular armrests are all available.
