How to Adjust Leg Rest Length to 350 mm

Proper lower leg support plays an important role in comfort, posture, and pressure management. The Cub wheelchair allows the leg rests to be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of users, with a lower leg length adjustment range of 140–350 mm (5½–13¾ inches).
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to extend the leg rest to its maximum length of 350 mm and correctly reinstall the footplate to ensure a safe, stable setup.
Why Proper Leg Rest Length Matters
The correct lower leg length helps maintain proper knee and hip positioning while ensuring the feet are fully supported on the footplates.
A properly adjusted leg rest can help:
Promote comfortable lower limb positioning.
Improve pressure distribution.
Reduce unsupported weight behind the knees.
Provide a stable foundation for daily activities and mobility.
Like every seating adjustment on Cub, leg rest length should always be configured according to the clinical prescription provided by the therapist or wheelchair provider.
Step 1 – Measure the Current Leg Rest Length
Before making any adjustments, measure the existing leg rest length using a measuring tape.
This establishes a baseline and allows you to accurately set the new target measurement of 350 mm.
Next, use the supplied tool to loosen the adjustment bolts on the leg rest.

Step 2 – Extend the Leg Rest
Once the fasteners have been loosened, slide the lower leg rest tube downward until it reaches the desired length.
Move the tube gradually while checking the measurement to ensure accurate positioning.

Step 3 – Verify the 350 mm Measurement
After extending the leg rest, measure again to confirm the final length is exactly 350 mm.
Taking a second measurement before tightening the hardware helps ensure both sides are adjusted consistently when applicable.

Step 4 – Install the Footplate
With the leg rest adjusted, install the footplate onto the lower leg support.
Position the footplate correctly and tighten all hardware securely.

1. Set the leg rest length according to the clinical prescription
Leg rest length should never be adjusted solely based on appearance. The correct length depends on the user's anthropometric measurements, muscle tone, range of motion, and overall seating goals. The prescribing therapist or wheelchair provider should determine the appropriate position for each individual.
2. Measure before tightening
Always verify the final dimension before fully tightening the bolts. Measuring twice helps ensure both leg rests are adjusted equally and prevents unnecessary readjustments.
3. Support the entire foot
After installing the footplate, confirm that the user's feet rest fully on the support surface without excessive pressure under the thighs or behind the knees. Proper foot support contributes to improved pelvic stability and overall sitting posture.
4. Inspect the hardware regularly
The Cub User Manual recommends checking the leg rests periodically for loose bolts, sharp edges, and signs of wear as part of routine maintenance. Keeping all fasteners secure helps maintain safe operation and reliable positioning.
